What better way to honor a former teacher and cross country coach than with a school community race that supports scholarships.
The East Greenbush Education Foundation together with Columbia Cross Country hosts the Barrett Memorial Run at Columbia High School in the Fall, which honors the late Dennis Barrett who taught social studies for more than 30 years.
“Dennis Barrett helped me a lot when I started coaching cross country,” said Girls' Varsity Cross Country Coach Doug Hadley. “It means a lot to have this race in his honor.”
The 2.7 mile course begins and ends at Columbia’s outdoor track as runners traverse the cross country trails surrounding the school.
The race if for students in grades K-12.
Proceeds from the event support the Barrett Memorial Scholarship which is given to one senior boy and one senior girl on the Cross Country team each year.
