Mr. Leroy “Roy” Tario currently serves as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Office of Investigation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security at Rouses Point, New York. This sensitive position affords him top secret security clearance. After graduation from Columbia High School, Mr. Tario continued his education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and General Studies at Northern Arizona University in 1986. This experience was preceded by his completion of an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice at Hudson Valley Community College. He completed his formal education in 1992 when he received a Masters in Public Administration from the State University of New York.

Mr. Tario’s professional experience in both a civilian and military role is impressive to say the least. As a civilian he has performed with distinction in a variety of roles, providing protection and the safeguarding of national security on our nation’s borders. After graduation from the United States Border Patrol Academy in 1981 and the Border Tactical Academy and San Diego S.W.A.T. Academy in 1984-85, he rose rapidly in a series of promotions and awards to the position of Acting Resident Agent in Charge. In recognition of the excellence of his performance, he received the United States Attorney’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement in 2002.

Mr. Tario’s military career perfectly complements his civilian vocation in its exemplary performance. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army National Guard in 1977, eventually achieving the rank of Colonel in 2003. He has commanded detachments of soldiers numbering 30-1800. His capacity to lead and be responsible for carrying-out critical tactical assignments has brought him universal recognition and merit in his role as Commander of Regional Police Advisory Command in Kabul, Afghanistan. His function was pivotal in training National Afghan Police in both military and police tactics. He also led multi-national operations in active combat where he again served with distinction earning the Bronze Star.

Mr. Tario resides in West Sand Lake with his wife Susan and their three sons Nicholas, Christopher, and Andrew. He remains active in the community serving in a variety of volunteer activities with youngsters. It is therefore, with great pride in recognition of his achievements and as a role model, that the East Greenbush School District inducts Leroy Tario into the Columbia High School Hall of Fame.
